David Sedaris (davidsedarisbooks.com) is a witty essayist who writes the kinds of books that have you giggling the aisles of your local bookshop upon opening his work to some random page, and reading a sample. I love his understatement-overstatement-understatement, where some dry, mild comments about how Americans dress too casually while traveling somehow becomes about how people must suddenly bolt for the airport while in the midst of de-greasing a pig.
Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls is another delightful collection of his writing -- and if you follow the link, you can hear a twelve minute reading about his medical experiences in France! (I especially like the part about not wanting other medical conditions that dogs get. Just go listen.) If you like this snippet, you'll enjoy the book.
