Breed and Director of Health Dr. Grant Colfax today announced San Francisco will join counties across the Bay Area to impose significant restrictions across the region in an effort to mitigate the current surge in COVID-19 cases. The City\u2019s case rate and hospitali\u2026\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The regional stay-at-home order from the California Department of Public Health is here:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"vlp-link-container vlp-template-default wp-block-visual-link-preview-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/12.3.20-Stay-at-Home-Order-ICU-Scenario.pdf\" class=\"vlp-link\" title=\"12.3.20-Stay-at-Home-Order-ICU-Scenario.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>\t\t<div class=\"vlp-link-text-container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"vlp-link-title\">\n\t\t\t12.3.20-Stay-at-Home-Order-ICU-Scenario.pdf\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-9fbdf1af-ff99-47de-8f5d-054cd38fda75\">What is especially discouraging for San Franciscans, who had kept the numbers so low <em>until recently<\/em>, is that we had some incremental service \/ business expansions which required extensive planning and infrastructure investment.  There has been<strong> so much effort<\/strong> on the part of locals, businesses, and the City to allow those to succeed. <strong>But the infection rate has climbed dramatically, and so we can&#8217;t continue as if it hasn&#8217;t<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-9fbdf1af-ff99-47de-8f5d-054cd38fda75\">The big question as we challenge restrictions on things like outdoor dining or museums at 25% capacity is: <strong><em>which activities are causing the spike? <\/em><\/strong> Indoor dining DEFINITELY contributes to infections, based on reports from other regions, and we can follow that science.  Meanwhile, the data on unenclosed (truly outdoor) dining, outdoor playgrounds with managed capacity, outdoor retail, and similar approaches is lacking.  That lack of data is frustrating!
