It impressed me.  I thought it was novel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>It started more than 600 fires here in California.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stepping outside when the smoke moves in midday is like standing over a campfire.  <em>Directly<\/em> over a campfire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is&#8230; distracting.  I know several people living near-ish to the fire; the two that are closest are the most modest about it, but are quite vigilant and have their things packed if they need to evacuate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a distraction from constantly read about the pandemic to constantly read about the fires, but another disaster was not exactly the distraction I was hoping for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\">Here are some favorite resources for fire monitoring, in the order I rely on them:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWSBayArea\">National Weather Service Bay Area on Twitter<\/a> (twitter.com\/NWSBayArea): red flag warnings, photos, video links<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CAL_FIRE\">CalFire on Twitter<\/a> (twitter.com\/CAL_FIRE\/): includes posted reports, evacuation orders, and information sharing across federal, state, and local fire authorities.  If you don&#8217;t like Twitter, you can also go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fire.ca.gov\/\">https:\/\/www.fire.ca.gov\/<\/a> instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fire.airnow.gov\/\">Fire and Smoke Map from fire.airnow.gov<\/a>: the source of the graphic below, filled with primary-colored geometric shapes indicating sensors and smoke readings.  It&#8217;s also worth noting that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airnow.gov\/\">airnow.gov<\/a> is great for air quality information generally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\">SUBSCRIPTION TEXT ALERT TOOLS<\/span>:<\/em> I receive text alerts from my city &amp; county emergency services organizations (<a href=\"https:\/\/member.everbridge.net\/453003085612609\/login\">alertsf.org (Everbridge)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sf72.org\/\">SF72.org<\/a>), which are timely and useful, if frequent.
