{"id":3093,"date":"2024-11-30T21:50:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-01T05:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/teahousehome.com\/booksandcoffee\/?p=3093"},"modified":"2024-11-29T22:43:28","modified_gmt":"2024-11-30T06:43:28","slug":"film-alien-romulus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teahousehome.com\/booksandcoffee\/2024\/11\/30\/film-alien-romulus\/","title":{"rendered":"Film: Alien Romulus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x0XDEhP4MQs?si=8cgvGzUs835VcPxw\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alien Romulus<br><\/strong>directed by Fede Alvarez<br>from 20th Century Studios<br>2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Alien<\/em> franchise (which I loved the first two films of) gets a classic\/traditional addition very similar to the first movie.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A group of young people trapped in endless mining-colony\/company-town debt devise a plan to salvage cryopods from a derelict structure in orbit to escape from their slavery and all associated corporate planets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What they don&#8217;t know is that the structure is a Weyland-Yutani Corporation lab, and was the scene of a grizzly accident involving certain xenomorphs&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The introductions to the characters are efficient, yet also effective in explaining their desperation.  Great sets (love those labs, the hallways, the blinking analog buttons, asymmetrical doors&#8230;), great monsters, great atmosphere, solid pacing, everything I want in sci-fi.   The rings around the planet are LOVELY, especially close up! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Yes, in the Before Times (pre-2020), I would have argued that people are not so foolish about the risks of deadly contamination, but I know better now.  The odds that humans would TOTALLY bring alien-contaminated friends back to their only spacecraft, or insist that they could quickly open a door without letting a fast and fatal xenomorph through, are through the hollow, alien-filled roof.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a great addition to the <em>Alien<\/em> family, and I&#8217;m impressed with the friend who recommended it to me.
